The COVID-19 pandemic has ushered in a new era of healthcare delivery models enabled by a spectrum of tools, from telephonic visits to remote patient monitoring to hospital at home. While many, if not all, of these tools existed prior to the pandemic, regulatory leniencies combined with reimbursement changes have pushed them to the forefront. Over the past year and a half, providers have fast tracked their new delivery model strategy out of necessity to defend against slipping patient volumes and to protect patients and healthcare workers. While this approach was necessary in the short-term, it leaves many providers exposed to inefficiencies, lack of appropriate IT protections and unrealized opportunities.
