Group of business people around a table

The 2017 National Center for Employee Ownership (NCEO) Fall ESOP Forum, held in October in Tampa, Florida, was attended by more than 300 participants. This first-year conference combined three meetings—the ESOP Symposium, S Corporation ESOP seminar and Get the Most Out of Your ESOP meeting. It provided attendees with information on employee stock ownership plans (ESOP), equity compensation plans and ownership culture.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Dan Peterson, senior supervisor of retirement plans at Wawa, Inc. and Todd Souders, Wawa, Inc. director of store operations. In addition, there was a preconference to help participants tell their employee ownership stories. More than 48 individual breakout sessions were offered with learning tracks including ESOP basics and beyond the basics, compensation and benefits, communications and culture and leadership and governance issues.

Highlights of the conference were the one-on-one “meet with an expert” sessions and roundtable discussions. These expert sessions allowed attendees to have private conversations with an experienced professional to go over questions and topics they had. Roundtable discussions included groups of people plus an experienced professional discussing specific topics in a collaborative format.
