The ESOP Association hosted its National Conference in May, drawing approximately 500 in-person attendees plus a virtual attendance. Each year the conference is aimed at all levels, including executives, employees, and service providers, with topics covering workplace culture and technical content. The learning tracks offered included: Administration, Board of Directors, C-Suite, Culture and Communications, and ESOP Fundamentals. The conference also offered a networking reception for attendees to meet with other employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) companies, service providers, and prospective ESOP companies.
Conference highlights included two Town Hall sessions related to federal, state, and local issues impacting ESOP-owned companies. The panelists included Brian Bowers (Bowers + Kubota), Peter Ney (EA Engineering) and Eric Tober (Cornerstone Government Affairs). Participants shared insights and experiences that will help shape The ESOP Association’s public policy agenda.
Another conference highlight was the Celebration of Excellence in Employee Ownership awards luncheon event. The ESOP Association presented annual national awards in several categories. The award winners included:
- Folience, 2022 Employee-Owned Company of the Year
- Sarah Limoges from Admix, Inc., National Employee Owner of the Year
- Colorado Gov. Jared Polis, Torchlight Award
Employee-owners had the opportunity to visit with their state legislators to discuss various hot topics, focusing on regulatory issues and challenges unique to ESOP-owned companies. The main request to each representative was the need for the IRS and U.S. Department of Labor to provide guidance on their regulations.
The 2023 conference will be May 16–19, 2023.
