Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central gets updates in two waves each year. While 2022 wave 2 updates will continue to roll out through March 2023, Microsoft is beginning to preview what’s coming next. Here are the key investment areas for the Business Central 2023 release wave 1.

Teams

Business Central offers an app that connects Microsoft Teams to your business data in Business Central so you can quickly share details with team members, look up contacts, and respond faster to inquiries.

Within the Business Central-Teams integration, Microsoft is working to improve adaptive cards in the upcoming release. Adaptive cards provide a way to share and display information between apps. Currently, Business Central users can use the “Share to Teams” action that now can include a preview of the link as a compact and contextual card that summarizes the record.

Soon, users will be able to embed Business Central data in a Teams group chat or channel.

A popular request is to have the ability to share live business data such as sales order or account information updates in a Teams chat, so users don’t have to switch between apps.

New adaptive card improvements will be announced in the upcoming Dynamics 365 release plan.

Another investment area Microsoft has previewed for Business Central and Teams is improved user management. With the latest release, new functionality permits Microsoft 365 users who do not have a Business Central license to read Business Central data in Teams, depending on admin settings. Any user management changes will be documented in the April release plan.

Developer Tools

Today's enterprise resource planning (ERP) landscape has lots of technical challenges, but also offers lots of possibilities for customizations to help increase efficiencies. For 2023 release wave 1, Microsoft previewed these Business Central developer tool updates:

  • Productivity with AL explorer, debugger, and code analyzer
  • AL-Go improvements

Administration

Microsoft also previewed these Business Central administrator updates:

  • Per-tenant extensions (PTEs) management in admin center (Business Central administrators have the responsibility of keeping apps and PTEs up to date)
  • Environment management (cross-version point in time restore, moving across tenants)
  • Cloud migration improvements
  • Communication and telemetry
