DALLAS – Tom Watson, regional managing partner for BKD’s South Region, and Partner Brian Matlock, national practice leader of BKD Energy & Natural Resources (ENR) Practice, are pleased to announce the promotion of Partner Rob Opitz to national tax leader for the ENR practice. This is a new position for BKD as the firm’s ENR practice continues to see substantial growth.

“Rob has been instrumental in bringing together the Dallas/Fort Worth ENR tax team for the development of best practices, technical standardization and an overall go-to-market strategy and he has proven himself as a national leader through his role as the lead tax instructor for the PDI Oil and Gas Tax Institute. Rob is the perfect selection for this position, and I am looking forward to working closely with Rob as we continue the expansion of the ENR practice,” said Matlock.

With his promotion to national ENR tax leader, Opitz can now expand his leadership to other key energy markets such as Houston, Oklahoma City, Denver and Pittsburgh, and BKD will offer tailored tax and consulting services to its energy clients nationwide. Opitz will begin his new role immediately.

“Our ENR practice is a focused investment area for our Governing Board. Adding Rob as ENR tax leader is a key step in delivering quality advisory and compliance services to this dynamic industry. I look forward to Rob bringing his expertise to our clients nationwide,” Watson said.

Opitz brings more than 25 years of experience serving clients in the oil and gas industry. He consults on tax planning and structuring for partnerships, S corporations and transactions. Before joining BKD in 2018, Rob served as managing partner and head of tax for a preeminent firm in Fort Worth, Texas.
