NATIONAL OFFICE – During its fiscal year ending May 31, 2021, BKD CPAs & Advisors donated more than $3.5 million to charitable organizations through a combination of giving campaigns.
In direct response to the needs that resulted from the COVID-19 pandemic, BKD raised more than $1.15 million for local food banks and pantries and United Way chapters. An initial campaign in June 2020 raised $500,000 and a recent follow-up campaign netted an additional $650,000. Funds will be allocated to local organizations serving communities near BKD’s offices.
“This is a tremendous testament to the spirit of giving that exists within BKD,” said CEO Tom Watson. “Even with all the audibles leadership had to call over the past 14 months, BKDers excelled while maintaining their sense of pride in their work and their communities.”
The donations raised in this COVID-19 food bank initiative are in addition to the $1.25 million the firm raised through normal giving to the BKD Foundation and the more than $1 million raised through United Way campaigns. In total, this results in BKD charitable contributions of more than $3.5 million for FY 2021.
The COVID-19 food bank campaign is a tangible example of how BKD’s SKY program extends beyond its employees and partners. “Our SKY program not only focuses on our existing professionals, but also on creating pathways for our potential future employees to succeed. Whether it’s our focused recruiting efforts, our participation in high school career development activities or supporting organizations that serve those less fortunate in our communities, our goal is to help create an environment where people in our communities have a greater chance of success,” said Watson. Sometimes, unexpected circumstances necessitate additional assistance from those who have been put in more fortunate positions. In alignment with this ideal, the people at BKD intentionally worked closely with organizations that are most active in underserved areas.
“Our culture is strong at BKD, and it only gets stronger as we work our way through these unique times together. We’re incredibly proud of our collective spirit to come together to help those in need,” said Watson.
