In September 2023, the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) released the much-anticipated proposed rule on minimum staffing requirements for skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). It is imperative SNFs and industry stakeholders submit comments to CMS by November 6, 2023, to provide valuable feedback on the proposed requirements. The American Health Care Association (AHCA) has developed an Action Center that allows providers, caregivers, and industry representatives to respond directly to CMS on this issue.

It is critical for the SNF industry to make its voice heard by submitting comments that clearly illustrate the current labor crisis, staffing challenges, and underfunding faced by the industry. In addition, providers need to clearly state that the substantial costs to meet minimum staffing requirements are unsustainable without additional funding. The AHCA Action Center provides specific guidance on the content to include in this important correspondence. Please do not delay in sharing your feedback with key decision makers on the impact this proposal could have on your organization.
