Ted S. Kontopoulos, J.D., is a member of BKD’s International Tax Services and Tax Controversy Services divisions. He is a tax attorney who focuses on providing international tax consulting and compliance services as well as tax controversy services. He has experience in international tax planning for multinational companies, foreign individuals, and trusts in such areas as Subpart F, global intangible low-taxed income, withholding taxes, and income tax treaties. In addition, Ted provides a variety of tax controversy services, including representation before the IRS and state tax authorities, protesting tax penalties, foreign financial asset reporting, submissions under voluntary disclosure programs, documenting complex tax positions, and assisting with corporate reorganizations, mergers, and acquisitions.

Ted is a frequent speaker about tax and international topics at the Chicago Bar Association, Illinois CPA Society, and other organizations. He serves as the current vice chair of the Chicago Bar Association Young Lawyers Section (YLS) Business Law Transactions Committee, and as the co-editor-in-chief of the YLS Journal. He is also a member of the YLS Federal Taxation Committee and the Illinois State Bar Association’s Federal as well as State and Local Taxation Sections. He has published articles in Tax Notes, Journal of Multistate Taxation and Incentives, Journal of International Taxation, and University of Illinois Law Review.

Ted is a magna cum laude graduate of University of Illinois College of Law, Urbana-Champaign, with a J.D. degree, and a magna cum laude graduate of Boston College, Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, with a B.A. degree in political science and international relations.
